FEELING PAIN AT THE PUMP
Motorists are driving less and reducing spending in other areas of their household budgets in response to the recent spike in gas prices, according to the latest Star- Ledger/Eagleton-Rutgers Poll. A statewide survey of 751 motorists, conducted Sept. 6-9, found that more than half (53 percent) said they are reining in spending in other areas as a result of gas prices. Close to half (49 percent) said they have cut down on vacation and weekend travel. And one-third said they attend entertainment or sports events less often.

UNEASE OVER THE WAR ON TERRORISM
Four years after the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, a majority of New Jersey residents say the United States is losing the war on terrorism and only one in five say that the federal government will respond effectively if a disaster strikes New Jersey. At the same time, President Bush’s job approval rating in New Jersey has reached an all-time low, according to the latest Star-Ledger/Eagleton-Rutgers Poll.

WE’VE GOT A RACE: NJ GUBERNATORIAL RACE STARTS OUT COMPETITIVELY
The first Star-Ledger/Eagleton Rutgers Poll conducted after the New Jersey gubernatorial primary on June 7 reveals that front-runner Senator Jon Corzine’s edge over Republican nominee Doug Forrester is a shallow one, with voters divided over which candidate is best able to handle two of the key issues facing the state: property taxes and corruption.

According to a new Star-Ledger/Eagleton-Rutgers Poll, the 2005 New Jersey Gubernatorial race remains in flux, with front-runner Senator Jon Corzine’s support broad but weakened. However, a strong GOP contender has yet to emerge, with only 19% percent of likely registered Republican voters saying they have decided which candidate to support in the Republican primary, now only three weeks off.
