NEW JERSEYANS TAKE TO ROAD DESPITE HIGH GAS PRICES

New Jersey drivers say they are taking mass transit more often and shopping for vehicles that get better gas mileage, but there is little change in the percentage that are scaling back travel plans this summer in response to high gas prices.

WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE AN AMERICAN?

When asked which characteristics best capture what it means to be an American, New Jersey adults point to respect for religious beliefs as the most important, followed by voting regularly and speaking English as one’s primary language. Buying only American-made products and having been born in the United States were among the least important characteristics, according to the latest Rutgers-Eagleton Poll.

NEW JERSEYANS NOW SUPPORT GAY CIVIL UNIONS BY 2-1

By a ratio of two to one, New Jersey adults support legalizing civil unions for gays and lesbians, while a majority supports gay marriage and opposes a proposed amendment to the U.S. Constitution that would define marriage as solely being between a man and a woman, according to the latest Rutgers-Eagleton Poll.
