The Force is Strong with New Jerseyans: Residents Prefer Star Wars Over Star Trek by Double Digits
In the wake of last night’s critical NJ.com debate on which science fiction universe rules the galaxy, New Jerseyans embrace the “Light Side” and lightsabers by a double-digit margin over the Vulcan salute and the final frontier, according to the latest Rutgers-Eagleton Poll. 36 percent say they prefer Star Wars, 24 prefer Star Trek, 4 say both and 29 say neither; 7 are unsure.

THE NEW YORK OLYMPIC GAMES 2012?
While the 2012 Olympics are just a speck on the sports horizon right now, preparations for site selection are well under way. Earlier this year, the US. Olympic Committee chose New York to be the official American entry in the international pool of cities vying to host the summer games in nine years. The New York bid includes plans for holding some events at venues in the Garden State. On the whole, most New Jerseyans feel that hosting this seminal competition would be good for the state. However, a majority draw the line at spending tax dollars in order to hold the games here.

FEW NEW JERSEYANS WOULD MISS THE NETS IF THEY GO
There has been much talk about the possible comings and goings of major league teams in New Jersey over the past few years and it appears that New Jerseyans are of two minds on the issue. While the vast majority of residents agree that having home-grown professional sports teams is good for the Garden State, few would shed any tears if the New Jersey Nets were to relocate across the Hudson.

THE SOPRANOS A “HIT” IN JERSEY
Like diners, toll roads, and Jimmy Hoffa’s final resting place, television’s “TheSopranos” has become a fundamental part of the New Jersey landscape, with many stateresidents eagerly awaiting the show’s fourth season. According to the latest Star-Ledger/Eagleton-Rutgers Poll, just over half of all New Jersey adults have tuned into the HBOseries at least once since it premiered in 1999. This includes one-in-five residents who say theynever miss an episode of the hit show that follows the trials and tribulations of a New Jerseymafia family.
