New Jerseyans appear to be losing little sleep over the departure of their Governor of the last seven years – Christine Todd Whitman. While enjoying generally popular regard, and being seen as a “fair-to-good” Governor, just three-in-ten credit her with any major accomplishment over her tenure as chief executive of the state. Whitman leaves a mixed legacy on handling a variety of issues in New Jersey, and she gets more of the blame for problems facing the state than she gets credit for those things that are going well.

New Jersey’s Acting Governor: Donald Who?
The new acting Governor of New Jersey – Donald DiFrancesco – is a mystery to most state residents. But while the current Senate President is largely unknown, few New Jerseyans are alarmed that an unfamiliar figure is assuming the state’s highest office. And the state is nearly evenly divided over whether DiFrancesco should act as a caretaker or actively pursue his own agenda while serving as acting Governor.

With elections to the New Jersey Legislature only two weeks away, 85 per cent of the state’s adult population does not even know that state senators and assemblymen are up for election. This is a major conclusion of the first New Jersey Poll, the results of which were released today.
