OVERALL PESSIMISM IN NEW JERSEY SUBSIDES; RESIDENTS EVALUATE ELECTED OFFICIALS
Although a majority of New Jerseyans still feel things in the state have gone off "on the wrong track," there is a marked improvement from last fall when 3-in-4 state residents had this impression. In addition, according to the most recent Star-Ledger/Eagleton Poll, both Governor Jim Florio and the state legislature recieve "excellent" or "good" ratings from about 1-in-4 state residents. While the positive job performance rating of Governor Florio is basically unchanged, legislative ratings show some decline. On a national level, about 7-in-10 continue to give President George Bush positive ratings.

NEW JERSEYANS SPEAK OUT ON CHILD CARE
Overwelmingly, close to 9-in-10 New Jerseyans agree that the availability of good quality child care should be a concern for everyone, not only working parents. Also, 7-in-10 say employers should help provide child care.

NEW JERSEYANS PESSIMISTIC ABOUT STATE ECONOMY
More than eight-in-ten New Jersey residents feel that their state is experiencing ‘bad times’ economically, according to the latest Star-Ledger/Eagleton Poll. This is a major increase from a year ago when about half said the state was in an economic downfall. Looking into the future, one-in-three New Jerseyans are optimistic that economic conditions in the state will take a turn for the better the next year.
