AUTO INSURANCE AT TOP OF VOTERS’ LIST OF CONCERNS; MOST FAVOR STRICT REGULATION OF INSURANCE COMPANIES

By a very wide margin, New Jersey voters say they would prefer to scrap the state’s system of auto insurance and try something different than make changes within the current system. Also, according to the latest Star-Ledger/Eagleton Poll, voters are much more likely to feel it is necessary to maintain strict regulation of auto insurance companies, than believe less regulation will lead to more competition and lower rates.

FLORIO HOLDS ADVANTAGE AMONG VOTERS ON KEY ISSUES

Auto insurance and the environment are seen by New Jersey voters as the most important problems which will confront the state’s next Governor, according to the latest Star Ledger/Eagleton Poll. The Democratic candidate Jim Florio seems well positioned to benefit more from public concerns in these areas because he is seen by widening margins of voters as better able than his opponent Jim Courter to handle both of these issues.

AIDS CONTINUES TO CONCERN NEW JERSEY RESIDENTS

In the state that ranks fourth nationally in the total number of AIDS cases, it is not surprising to find that most New Jersey residents continue to be concerned about the disease. Nine out of ten state residents say that AIDS is a serious threat to the general public in New Jersey. Also, according to the latest Star Ledger/Eagleton Poll, most New Jerseyans feel that the number of AIDS cases in the state will increase in the next five years.
