New Jerseyans increasingly give subpar ratings to both the state and national economies, and while overwhelming dissatisfaction with how the state handles taxes and affordability persists, views on other issues are becoming more mixed, according to the latest Rutgers-Eagleton Poll in collaboration with the New Jersey Organization for a Better State (NEW JOBS) political action committee.

Two-Thirds of New Jerseyans Want More News About Their Local Area

The majority of New Jersey residents seem to support a larger ecosystem for local news, no matter their political affiliation, according to the latest Rutgers-Eagleton Poll in collaboration with the New Jersey Civic Information Consortium. Sixty-five percent say they would like to receive more news about their local area, 27% say they would like the same amount and 4% say they would like to see less. Fifty-six percent say would like to see more statewide news, 34% would like to see the same amount and 5% would like to see less.

What Do New Jerseyans Want Mikie Sherrill to Focus on First? Taxes.

A new governor may be heading to Trenton, but New Jerseyans’ top priority for Mikie Sherrill is a familiar one, according to the latest Rutgers-Eagleton Poll. Residents think Sherrill should focus first and foremost on taxes, a problem that has taken the top spot for New Jerseyans for 15 years straight. Twenty-eight percent say Sherrill should tackle taxes, with poll responses heavily dominated by residents specifically mentioning property taxes. Another 19% say Sherrill should focus first on affordability or cost of living in the state, though the umbrella theme of affordability pervaded other topics, too, such as housing and health care.

New Jerseyans Give Murphy a C for His Time as Governor Overall, D+ On Taxes and Affordability

Gov. Phil Murphy ends his tenure as a C student in the eyes of New Jerseyans, according to the latest Rutgers-Eagleton Poll. The Poll asked residents to give Murphy a final grade for the job he has done as governor, using a standard educational grading scale ranging from A (4 points) to F (0 points). Murphy earns a C overall for the past eight years, with a grade-point average of 2.09. Nine percent of residents give him an A, 32% a B, 23% a C, 16% a D, and 13% an F.
