VOTERS’ RESPONSE TO CAMPAIGN ISSUES: TOXICS. TAXES. AND MANAGING GOVERNMENT

Environmental protection and toxic waste continues to be the issue of greatest concern to voters in this year’s gubernatorial election. While Governor Kean does not receive high marks for the job his administration has done cleaning up toxic waste sites, his opponent Peter Shapiro has gained just a little ground on this issue over the last month, according to the latest Star-Ledger/Eagleton poll. Only one-fourth of voters feel that if elected Shapiro would do a better job than Kean has of cleaning up toxic wastes.
