THE 1987 LEGISLATIVE ELECTION: ELECTORATE MORE DEMOCRATIC THAN IN 1985

A new Star-Ledger/Eagleton Poll finds the mood of the New Jersey electorate to be more favorable to the Democratic Party than was the case in 1985, the last time a statewide election was held. In that election, with Governor Thomas Kean leading the ticket, Republicans captured control of the Assembly from the Democrats by a margin of 50 to 30 seats.
