THE 1984 SENATE ELECTION: BRADLEY BEGINS CAMPAIGN WITH COMMANDING LEAD

When a well-known, popular, and well-financed incumbent runs against a little known opponent, all the ingredients for a landslide are present. This is the way the U.S. Senate election in New Jersey is shaping up, as Democrat Bill Bradley begins his campaign for reelection against Republican challenger Mary Mochary. A Star—Ledger/Eagleton Poll conducted earlier this month finds Bradley with a commanding 65 to 11 lead, with 23 percent undecided as the campaign nears the traditional Labor Day starting point.
