THE 1977 GUBERNATORIAL ELECTION, PART XI: BYRNE LEADS BATE MAN

For the first time during this campaign, Brendan Byrne leads Ray Bateman, the Republican challenger for Governor. The latest Eagleton Poll, conducted between October 24 and November 1 finds 44 percent of registered voters favoring Byrne with 36 percent backing Bateman and 2 percent choosing one of the independent candidates. The remaining 18 percent are undecided.
