Whether or not a family owns its home is one of the most important determinants of political attitudes in New Jersey according to the New Jersey Poll. A statewide sample of 1221 respondents taken between October 6 and 25 was asked ‘Regardless of the political party you might favor, do you consider yourself to be a liberal, conservative, or somewhere in between?’ Responses showed that homeowners tend to be more conservative than renters. Homeowners reported 52% conservative to 32% liberal with the remainder undecided. Among renters 34% said they were conservative compared to 45% liberal, the rest being undecided.
