PRISON OVERCROWDING: PUBLIC WILLING TO PAY FOR MORE SPACE; SUPPORT LONGER SENTENCES FOR DRUG OFFENDERS

A large majority of 7-in-la New Jerseyans say they would favor a bond issue to raise almost $200 million dollars for the construction of new prison facilities in the state. And, by an even wider margin, most residents say they support longer prison sentences for people convicted of crimes involving illegal drugs, according to the latest Star-Ledger/Eagleton Poll.
