New Jersey is ready to elect more women to public office according to the Eagleton Institute’s New Jersey Poll. Eagleton asked a statewide sample of New Jersey’s voting age population if they would support “a well—qualified woman candidate” for public office. Results show that 91% of the sample would support a woman running for local office or for the state legislature, 90% said they would support a woman running for Congress, 82% would support a woman running for governor and 63% said they would be willing to support a woman running for president. Opposition to women candidates was about 6% for local office, state legislature and congress, 13% for governor and 27% for president. A small percentage of the sample registered no opinion on these questions.
