The American Association for Public Opinion Research (AAPOR) was founded in 1947 to disseminate public opinion research through Public Opinion Quarterly and to promote professional standards of conduct. ECPIP adheres to AAPORs standards. The National Council on Public Polls (NCPP) has aimed to set ethical standards for pollsters and increase public knowledge about polls since its inception in 1969. ECPIP abides by NCPPs principles of disclosure. NCPP publishes a useful booklet entitled Twenty Questions a Journalist Should Ask About Poll Results, available on their website. The National Network of State Polls (NNSP), of which ECPIP is a charter member, provides an extensive database of surveys. The NNSP archive currently contains over 350 state-level studies (consisting of over 31,000 questions) from 22 survey organizations in 19 states, including the national Harris Polls. Question text and results are searchable on-line. The
Polling Report is an "independent, nonpartisan resource on trends
in American public opinion." They have both free and subscription
services. Data on the Net, hosted by UC-San Diego, contains a guide to more than 800 Internet sites of social science statistical data, including U.S. Census data. The University of Michigan is home to the Inter-University Consortium for Political and Social Research international data archive as well as the National Election Studies. The Roper Center for Public Opinion Research houses a number of data archives, including the National Opinion Research Center's General Social Surveys. The Washington Post Data Directory provides links to public opinion data published on the Internet by nonpartisan organizations.
