Governor Byrne is viewed as most responsible for New Jersey’s controversial income tax package, according to the latest Eagleton Poll. The statewide survey, conducted by the Eagleton Institute of Politics at Rutgers University finds the Governor mentioned most frequently when respondents were asked, “who was most responsible for the new state income tax package–the Governor, the State Legislature, or the State Supreme Court?” Forty-seven percent name the Governor, while 24 percent mention the State Legislature, and 13 percent point to the New Jersey Supreme Court.
