FLORIO MAINTAINS LEAD OVER WHITMAN; UNFAVORABLE IMPRESSIONS OF BOTH CANDIDATES INCREASE

As the race for Governor enters its final weeks, Jim Florio leads Christine Todd Whitman by a margin of 52 to 40 percent and 8 percent are undecided. Support for Floria has increased 5 percentage points since the September poll and Whitman’s support increased 2 percentage points.

NEITHER FLORIO NOR WHITMAN SEEN AS BETTER ON HANDLING THE ECONOMY

With nearly 4-in-5 voters describing economic conditions in New Jersey as in bad times, majorities do not think that the election of either Jim Florio or Christine Todd Whitman as governor will make any difference in improving economic conditions in the state (51%) or in creating new jobs in New Jersey (61%).

BRADLEY LEADS WHITMAN IN THE HOMESTRETCH

Bill Bradley, the Democratic candidate for U.S. Senator, has a 17 point lead over his Republican opponent Christine Todd Whitman going into Tuesday’s election. Bradley has stronger support from Democrats than Whitman receives from Republicans and is favored by Independents.
