In its statewide New Jersey Poll the Eagleton Institute asked a sample of 1214 adults how good a job they think the Governor is doing: “excellent”, “good”, “only fair,” or “poor.” Poll results show that Cahill’s combined “excellent” and “good” rating has declined two points to 34% in the current N.J. Poll, down from 36% in the March 1973 poll. The current poll was conducted May 11—22, before the primary campaigns heated up, and it was administered by telephone to a statewide random sample. A sample of this size, according to Stephen Salmore ,Eagleton’s expert on surveying, is accurate to within approximately 3 points of the true figure.
