A state income tax accompanied by a reduction of local property taxes is still supported by New Jerseyans

A state income tax accompanied by a reduction of local property taxes is still supported by New Jerseyans, although by a narrower margin than in recent years. The latest New Jersey Poll, conducted by the Eagleton Institute of Rutgers University just before Governor Byrne introduced his tax proposals, finds 47 percent favoring a state income tax with 41 percent opposed and 12 percent undecided.
