A majority of New Jerseyans favor providing public jobs for the unemployed as a way of dealing with the current recession. The latest New Jersey Poll, conducted by the Eagleton Institute of Rutgers University, finds that 59 percent agree that ‘the government should provide jobs for all people out of work.” Thirty—six percent oppose such a policy while 5 percent are undecided.
